How to Wrangle Your DNA Matches Into a Group using Ancestry's Pro Tools

Although the method for adding multiple DNA matches to a group has been altered from the non-subscription approach, the option is still accessible. This quick guide will demonstrate how to effectively utilize Ancestry's Pro Tools to expertly organize your DNA matches using their colored squares.

Getting Started

To begin this journey, the initial step is to locate your DNA matches. Visit the DNA Matches section on Ancestry and begin examining the roster of possible relatives just waiting to be found.

Step 1: Select the DNA Match to view Shared Matches

Click on the DNA match that you wish to compare with shared matches and you will see a page just like the old interface, but with the "Shared Matches PRO" tab. Click on that tab to see your shared matches.

Next, locate the "Add Group" button at the top of the shared matches list. Click on it to display your existing groups on the side of the screen. (Refer to the next step)

Step 2: Add or Create Groups

On this page, you can view your shared matches and access the groups popup on the right side. You have the option to either create a new group using the highlighted text or manage your current groups by adding or removing members.

Step 3: Selecting & Grouping Matches

To add DNA matches to a group, tick the box on the far left of the matches you wish to include. Once selected, assign them to a particular group by clicking on the + sign next to the group's name.

Whether you are organizing a group for maternal relatives, paternal connections, or a specific surname, Ancestry's Pro Tools offer the flexibility to tailor your groups to suit your research requirements.

Once you have saved your modifications, you can revisit the new group to view the updated matches.
